2 Day: Tangier » Chefchaouen
We will have breakfast, then start driving through the Rif Mountain in the direction of Chefchaouen town. Chefchaouen is a town built by the Muslim and Jew refugees from Spain, who came to settle down here during the 15th century. This is what makes the city one of the best destinations if you’re looking to see what an Andalusian influence in architecture would look like in a Moroccan city. Another main thing that attracts people from all over the world to come see Chefchaouen is the beauty and quietness of its Old Medina alleyways; in addition to the unique vibrant blue color that coats its buildings. In the main square of the town, there are many cafes and restaurants that offer amazing panoramic views of the entire city.
3 Day: Chefchaouen » Fes
At the morning we will drive to Fez, then begin our guided tour of the city once we get there. At first we will be walking around the streets and alleyways of the Old Medina, then we will visit the impressive gates of the royal palace, and what is considered to be the first Mellah to be built in Morocco. After that, we will go walk around the Attarin Souk, where you will find all sorts of artisanal products on display. After we are done with that, we will leave the Souk through the Bab Boujeloud gate which is in itself a stunning masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship. Following this, we will pay a visit to the Dar Albatha museum, known for its unique display of traditional Moroccan arts. We may have a typical Moroccan lunch at a restaurant in the Medina if you would like, after which we will go to explore all the monumets that made Fez known as the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. I am of course talking about the oldest university in the world, Al Quaraouine University and all of its libraries and accompanying schools such as Al Attarin Madrassa. Finally, we will spend the night in a hotel/Riad.
4 Day: Fes » Ifrane » Azrou » Errachidia » Erfoud » Merzouga (Desert)
This day will be spent mostly on a road trip towards the desert of Merzouga, passing by the city of Erfoud. You will get to experience the real desert culture, as you’re riding on the back of camels through the majestic golden dunes while the sun is setting over a scarlet red sky. The camels will lead you to the desert camp where you will live the most memorable night of the trip. Connect with nature as you are listening to live Berber drums and music playing while you attend a traditional mint tea serving ceremony. Then you will get to feast on a mouthwatering Moroccan dinner consisting of appetizers, the main dish (a tajine), couscous, then fruits and desert (Moroccan pastries). You will get to sleep in a traditional nomadic style tent, while gazing at a beautiful starlit night sky. Being surrounded by nothing but the endless silent dunes brings a sense of peace and quietness like no other. It takes you back in time to the times where these same desert tracks used to be filled with caravans transporting gold and spices into the rest of the country. If you are not comfortable with sleeping in a tent in the desert, there also the option of spending the night at a nearby guesthouse.
5 Day: Merzouga » Rissani » Alnif » Tazarine » Zagora
We will wake up early today in order to enjoy the magnificent desert sunrise, after which we will have a traditional breakfast at the camp. Today we will head to Ouarzazate city, driving through the Draa valley known for its palm groves. Then after meeting the Berber village of Agdez, we will continue driving by the Anti-Atlas, through the mountain pass of Tizin Tinifift. After that we will cross another pass in the direction of Marrakech: Tizin Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco. We will then arrive at Marrakech where we will have dinner and spend the night in a Riad/hotel.
7 Day: Marrakech » Essaouira
Our morning will be dedicated to enjoying the beautiful red city: Marrakech, and after we have lunch we will head towards Essaouira. We will visit this magical city to enjoy its golden beaches and coastline, as well as all the local seafood cuisine it offers. Essaouira has a very unique and interesting vibe to it because of all the Portuguese, French and Berber influences that are present in its architecture. You will definitely get to enjoy that as well, while wandering around the city or relaxing at a local café. You will spend the night at a traditional Riad or hotel in the old Medina.
8th Day: Essaouira » Safi » El Jadida » Casablanca
