8 Days From Tanger to Desert Merzouga

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Tanger

You have made it Morocco! Once you get to Tangier you will be met by one of our staff in order to be transferred to the hotel where you will be staying. Needless to say, Tangier is an extremely interesting port city that used to guard the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. You can either relax and rest from your trip at the hotel, or you can discover a little bit of the city and have fun at the old Medina or the new part of the city.

Day 2: Tanger Sightseeing

After we spend the morning discover all the interesting things that Tangier has to offer, we will spend the afternoon exploring what the nearby beaches have! That will lead us to the famous Cape Spartel, in which you can catch sights of fascinating migrating birds flying above the sea. Then just about 5 kilometers away we will find the historical Caves of Hercules straight out of Greek mythology. Legends say that Hercules rested in these caves before continuing his 12 labors.

Day 3: Tanger – Tetouan – Chefchaouen

Today we will leave Tangier heading west towards Ceuta driving through the mountains. You will have some amazing sights of the sea from over there, and you may even get the chance to climb Jebel Musa, on the African side of the rock of Gibraltar. After having lunch in Tetouan city, we will continue driving by the coast, through a small fishing town called Capo Negro. Then finally we will arrive at Chefchaouen, which is a town built by the Muslim and Jew refugees from Spain, who came to settle down here during the 15th century. This is what makes the city one of the best destinations if you’re looking to see what an Andalusian influence in architecture would look like in a Moroccan city.

Day 4: Chefchaouen

You are free to spend today at Chefchaouen however you want. In the main square of the town, there are many cafes and restaurants that offer amazing panoramic views of the entire city. Or you can simply walk around the Old Medina and its souk markets.

Day 5: Chefchaouen – Fes

Today will be the road trip from Chefchaouen to Fez, driving through the Rif Mountains. These areas are actually rarely visited by tourists, not only because they’re located very far from city centers, but also because of the cannabis cultivation going on in there. Nevertheless, you will able to get the best out of your Rif experience thanks to your experienced guide and driver.

Day 6: Fes Sightseeing

We will begin our guided tour of the city by walking around the streets and alleyways of the Old Medina, then we will visit the impressive gates of the royal palace, and what is considered to be the first Mellah to be built in Morocco. After that, we will go walk around the Attarin Souk, where you will find all sorts of artisanal products on display. After we are done with that, we will leave the Souk through the Bab Boujeloud gate which is in itself a stunning masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship. Following this, we will pay a visit to the Dar Albatha museum, known for its unique display of traditional Moroccan arts. We may have a typical Moroccan lunch at a restaurant in the Medina if you would like, after which we will spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the new parts of the city. As for the overnight accommodations, they will be the same as the night before.

Day 7: Roman city of Volubilis – Meknes

We will leave Fez after breakfast then head to Volubilis next. Now Volubilis is a ruins town of the Great Roman Empire, dating back to the 3rd century BC. This archeological site is known for having the most well-preserved ruins and mosaics from that time period. A neighboring town to Volubilis is Moulay Idriss Zerhoune, which a spiritual place that is home to the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the ruler of the first Islamic Dynasty in Morocco. We may stop there for a little bit to enjoy a cup of mint tea, before finally continuing to Meknes. We will get there during the evening, then we will spend the night at a hotel/Riad.

Day 8: Meknes – Tanger

We will start our day by driving back to Tangier, through the city of Ksar Lkbir. This will be your last free day in Tangier, so make sure to get the most out it. You might want to go do some last minute shopping for souvenirs, or you can simply enjoy your evening in a traditional restaurant.

Day 9: Tanger Airport
